Oh my God...I have never been so thankful for a week to be over.  I know radar is an important thing that we will be using a lot, but holy moly!!!  I never knew radar was so complicated.  We have radar on my family's boat, but we just sit there looking at it and when we see a blip on the screen, we turn to avoid it.  But apparently, we should of been drawing vectors out and using speed and time and distance to see just how close we will come to not hitting the boat or ship.  Personally, I think I like the lazy, easy way better of just continually turning until everything is out your way, but oh well.  On bigger ships, I guess that could be considered more difficult.  Details, details.  Anyway, we all made it through the week and I might say, we were all a bit loopy on the last day.  There was a lot of singing (drinking songs preferably), skipping and hopping across the lab, a bunch of giggling, and weird new people with different accents (all were of course from me except the latter which was partially Marc).  Anyway, I don't think many of us would have been able to go on one more day, so thankfully, we didn't.  Saturday was spent on the water.....FINALLY!!!  As one person said..."We've been in NOAA for 5 weeks now and this is the first time we have actually gotten on the water".  It was lots of fun with perfect weather.  In fact, most of us got sunburnt a little.  We had light winds and clear skies with sunshine.  Couldn't be better than that.  We spent the majority of the day working on docking manuevers in 4 Boston Whalers.  No fingers were lost and except a few bumps off the docks, I would have to say everyone did a absolutely great job.  They even let us take the Whalers out for a little spin out in the Sound.  Fun stuff!!!  I was just happy to be floating instead of walking.  Anyway, as I mentioned last week, I didn't take many pictures this week because of Radar lab, but I've got a few from our day on the water as well as few from last weekend when 9 of us went in to the city.  Anyway, enjoy!  Miss you all.

This is somewhere in the Time Square area.  I only know about the places I've seen on TV.  I think we passed CBS studios on the left there beyond the LOEWS sign, but I was so lost I don't know what I was seeing.

Look mom!!!  It's our favorite pretzel establishment.  Don't worry, I didn't have one without you.  Mainly because I didn't see until right after we ate.  But now I know where it is for when you guys come out in May.

This looks like a painting, but it's actually a picture I took of the bear exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History.  Of course, the animals are stuffed and therefore not moving, but I was surprised how well the picture came out through glass with my cheap digital camera.  I think I may develop this pic.  Anyway, museum was cool.  Tim and I saw the IMAX presentation on the Galopagos Islands which was good.

It's very tiring walking around New York City in a day.  Here's Josh and Ben taking a little nap on the subway.  And then there's Phoebe and me finding a new method of resting.

Kind of sad, but we did go by the WTC 'Ground Zero'.  It was interesting to see.  As you can see, it looks like their in the progress of rebuilding.

Here's the group of us that went into the city sitting on the steps in World Financial Center.

Back row: Ben, Josh, Chad, and Tim

Front row: Ryan, Phoebe, Megan and Caryn

So, the above pictures are of each of the class members behind the wheel of one of the Boston Whalers.  Click on the picture for a bigger version.  Anyway, that's it for now.  Next week, we'll see what new stuff we can add.  We're going into our sixth week now.  This week will be a bunch of various classes like CPR/First Aid, anchoring terminology and other subjects that will prepare us for our first overnight cruise next Monday.  Hope everyone is well.

Cheers!
